Open Call for volunteers – Team 4 (2025)

in The fortified hill of St. Archangel, close to Goce Delchev town, Bulgaria | 24.06.2025 – 07.08.2025 About the location: The fortified hill of St. Archangel is located in Nevrokop valley, on the left side of Nestos river on the first slopes of Rhodopi. The site was declared as a cultural monument of national importance from Antiquity and the Middle Ages. From the hill on which the site is located, there is an exceptionally good view to the Nevrokop valley – to the village of Dabnitsa, the village of Koprivlen with the eponymous site there, the town of Gotse Delchev, as well as to the passes leading to the Drama valley, Seres, Thessaloniki and Petrich plains. The eponymous for the region Roman city of Nicopolis ad Nestum is located several kilometers to the west/northwest of the site. The main focus of the archaeological research is on the Southwestern part of the fortified territory and on the top of the hill, where during the excavations held in the last five years a intensive habitation was found from the Late Chalcolithic (Late Neolithic in Greece terminology) up to fourteen century with just one gap – The Bronze Age. The remains visible are mainly from Late Antiquity (4th – 6th c AD), when the hill was fortified and built-up with a plan all around.

• Helping in the archaeological ruins and Archaeological museums.
• Historical and cultural awareness and actions for populating the region.
• 2 volunteers will be tour-guides

PARTICIPANTS:   6 youth (18-29 years old), eligible countries: all EU countries

PROFILE of participants:

• Working language – English (or at least one participant per country have to know English very good and to help of the rest of the participants from the same country);
• Participants that study Archaeology or History or unemployment youth people with interest in the topic,
• An experience in youth programs is not obligatory

WHAT SUPPORT is insured:

• Your accommodation;
• House related expenses (electricity and water);
• Money for personal needs, food and transport: 1035 euro;
• Insurance (45 days project period)

RULES of program European Solidarity Corps:

You should have your SENDING ORGANIZATION, that will prepare you before leaving and will be in contact with you on the time of the project.
