THE DORMITION OF THE MOTHER OF GOD

The Christian holiday is dedicated to the eternal sleep or death of the Mother of God.

The day is celebrated with a solemn church liturgy. Often large gatherings of people are held on this day, which are attended by guests from neighboring villages. The gatherings are held in villages where the Mother of God is the patron saint of the local church. People collect money to buy an animal that they sacrifice to prepare a meal for everyone.
