ENYO’S DAY OR THE SUMMER IVAN’S DAY
The Christian church dedicates this day to the birth of St. John the Baptist, whom the Bulgarians venerate as the patron of brotherhood and godfathership.
Folk healers claim that the herbs harvested in the early hours of Enyo’s Day are the most healing.
The ritual Enyova Bulya or Enya is performed in the Thracian region, when the girls announce what kind of boy they will marry. It was believed that the eve of Enyo’s Day was magical, and that magicians and vagrants went out to steal fruits from foreign land.
